Flagz n Handz Mix

Preparations for the Coleford Writers Festival and Forest Open Studios continue in earnest.

Recently as part of our continuing research into Ethnomycology, Sally, Fi and I have noticed that given the right conditions the fungi Daldinia concentrica, commonly known as King Alfred's Cakes (see image right) is capable of creating intricate patterns similar to those on a Twister board, which, when placed to music make fascinating images.
We enrolled 3,000 local schoolchildren to experiment and managed to create the world's largest Ogham Hand Crossword Puzzle.

Watch and enjoy

I am interested by the Health and Safety implications of the use of funghi in Children's Play Activities. Is this a Key Stage 2 activity ?

Hi Sally and the Psychic Monk

Fab timing of music to action on this, deeply impressed!
And love the kaleidoscopic splitting and repeating of images!

Ah, Alfie The Cake! Who knew! There he is, a Daldinia from the kingdom of fungus, with rings representing seasons of reproduction, good lord Alfie's growing more and more compelling with each day!

I will pop up to Alfie The Cake's current temporary residence in the rockery (sort of a rockery) under the damson tree and inform him of his recent guest appearance. If he's not too busy with random insects and small animals that may have made their home with him I am certain that he'll be very proud.

And I've found Yezriel's egg!!

More of this anon.
